2 écrans 27" sur un MacPro
En cherchant un peu partout des solutions pour ajouter une nouvelle carte graphique à mon Mac Pro (version 1,1) je me suis rapidement rendu compte que le choix proposé par Apple® est très limité voir inexistant!
Fin 2010 mes deux écrans cathodiques Dell et Lacie (il ont vécu +de 10 anstout de même) commence à rendre l'âme.
Je me dis tout naturellement que deux écran LED 27" iraient à merveille sur mon bureau! C'est là que commence l'aventure.
Les écrans Apple ne propose que le connecteur mini display port (photo ici) et mon Mac Pro de 2006 possède uniquement une connectique DVI....
Naturelement le temps passe... Mon mac n'est pas tout neuf... Mais bon.. je ne vais pas changer de machine maintenant!
Solution A:
Commander une carte graphique Apple compatible avec mon Mac et avec deux ports minidisplay... ça n'existe pas!
En effet disons que la carte proposée par Apple (Graphik Upgrade Kit 5770 PCIE 2.0) n'est pas compatible avec le premier MacPro.
C'est ce qui est noté sur le papier et confirmé par téléphone avec le service clientèle "PRO"..... Dans la pratique: de nombreux site affirment que cette carte fonctionne très bien sur les premier MacPro.... Cette carte est très chère en comparaison du modèle pour PC...
Solution B:
Flasher une carte PC pour la rendre compatible Mac! En plus d'être beaucoup moins chère ça permet de bidouiller un peu!
Finalement j'ai opté pour deux écrans DELL U2711

1024MB DDR5, 5200/875MHz, ATI Radeon

Procédure
Les 2 CD gravés et OSX mis à jour 10.6.6
On passe à la pratique:
1: insérer le CD UltimatBootCD
2: Eteindre la machine
3: Ajouter la carte XFX ATI 5770 dans un emplacement PCIe (LAISSER LA CARTE D'ORIGINE DANS SON EMPLACEMENT N°O )
4: Démarrer en bootant sur le CD (touche ALT puis choisir le CD)
5: Accepter de charger les drivers de souris
5: Choisir “UBCD FreeDOS”
6: une fois démarré on se retrouve avec quelque chose comme: q:>
7: Ejecter le CD et le remplacer par celui avec (Atiflas + m57703.ROM) (J'ai utilisé le bouton eject du lecteur DVD car il était accessible (Baie des lecteurs optiques sortie et posée à coté de la tour))
8: Taper "menu" (sans le guillemets) et appuyer sur "Enter"
9: Choisir "list Drives"
10: Le nouveau CD sera détecté et sa lettre de lecteur affichée (par exemple t: ou une autre lettre)
11: taper "t:" pour choisir le CD
12: avec la commande "dir" on peut s'assurer qu'on est bien sur le CD
13: taper ceci:
atiflash -p 0 m57703.ROM -f puis appuyer sur "Enter"
14: Quelques secondes plus tard on se retrouve avec l'invite de commande t:\ (flashage réussi...)
15: Eteindre le Mac en maintenant le bouton Power 5 secondes
16: Supprimer la carte 7300GT d'origine et la remplacer par la nouvelle 5770 tout fraichement flashée.
17: On redémarre et on attend 40sec environ... pour voir apparaitre la fenêtre de connexion.
NOTES:
La pomme sur fond gris avec la roue n'est plus visible avec une connexion DVI... c'est normal...

Here is the standard procedure for flashing ATI cards in PC if you have a suitable Mac ROM for your card.
• Download the Mac ROM intended for your PC ATI card from The Mac Elite, here :

• First of all you will have to make a DOS bootable disk (or USB flash disk if your PC supports booting from USB) and copy over atiflash.exe, along with the BIOS you choose to use.
Latest ATIFLASH program can be found at http://www.techpowerup.com/, you will also find there a huge ATI ROM collection for PC card (and even some Mac ATI ROMs)
Latest ATIFLASH (3.10 and above) supports flashing 128KB ROM if your card has a 128KB rom chip.
• Flashing with ATIFLASH 3.10 and above:
After you created the bootable disk, restart your PC with the boot disk. At the command prompt, type the following and begin your flash process.
a:\>atiflash -i [Enter]
Will check the system for ATI cards installed. If there are several, they will be numbered, counting from "0". Check out whichh is the card to be flashed.
a:\>atiflash -s backup.rom [Enter]
Standard back-up (saves BIOS to Floppy/current directory)
(note : "a:\>" might be a different letter if you're booting from anything else than a floppy disk. USB "Pen Drive" will work as standard Hard Drive and command prompt will probably look like "c:\>")
a:\>atiflash -p 0 mac.rom -f [Enter]
-p is switch to program the rom.
0 (zero) is the adapter number, if there is only one card installed. If you have 2 ATI cards, check first which adapter number is the card you want to flash (see above).
mac.rom is the Mac ROM file you want to flash to your card.
-f is the switch to allow forced flash for different ROM revision or if there's a DeviceID mismatch between PC ROM and Mac ROM
If everything is fine, you should get a message telling the flash process went fine.
If you get an error message, flash your card back to PC ROM to avoid being stuck on PC reboot with a misflashed ATI card.
This flashing procedure should work with almost every ATI card which has a known working mac rom (original or modified, full 128KB or reduced to 64KB)
Check ATIFLASH DOS command line help to get full switches and options list as it depends on the version of the ATIFLASH program you're using.
FLASHROM DOS command line program also has equivalent features. However, it is not supposed to work with 128KB Mac ROMs.
If a 9500 or 9700 does not work on the Mac, check whether it requires separate power supply (PC-floppy-disk-power-connector opposite side to the VGA plug).
